. . . where the 1970s live forever!

The Pirates, after scoring once in the first inning, exploded for five runs in the second and breezed to a 7-1 victory over the Reds to the disappointment of the Cincinnati crowd of 50,756. John Candelaria hurled the route for the Pirates, holding the Reds to six hits. In the first, the Pirates' initial run came on a triple by Frank Taveras and infield out by Ed Kirkpatrick.

The outburst in the second included two walks and singles by Manny Sanguillen and Tommy Helms for two runs. Candelaria bunted safely, but Taveras grounded into a double play. That did not stop the Pirates, who added their three other runs in the inning on a walk and a triple by Al Oliver. [The Sporting News]
