Manny Trillo drove in four runs with a double, triple and homer, while Bill Madlock also hit for the circuit, as the Cubs defeated the Giants, 8-6. Bobby Murcer homered with two aboard for the Giants' initial runs.

Trillo connected for the circuit with a man on base in the third. Madlock hit his homer to break a 6-6 tie in the eighth. Pete LaCock then singled and Trillo tripled for his third extra-base hit of the game to provide the Cubs with an insurance tally. [The Sporting News]
