Paul Splittorff pitched a three-hitter and Al Fitzmorris followed with a five-hitter as the Royals defeated the Red Sox in a twi-night doubleheader, 5-1 and 2-1. Splittorff was assured of his 10th victory in the opener when the Royals scored four runs in the fourth inning. John Mayberry and Jamie Quirk each rapped RBI singles before Buck Martinez capped the outburst with a two-run double.
