John D'Acquisto, with ninth-inning help from Mike Caldwell, posted his first victory of the season after five defeats as the Giants downed the Cardinals, 5-3. Gary Matthews' single was the only hit in the Giants' three-run fifth inning, when two runs scored on Vic Harris' throwing error and Bob Forsch walked Darrell Evans, forcing in another run.
