A Metropolitan Stadium crowd of 30,425, largest of the season for the Twins, saw the home club succumb to Tigers' rookie Mark Fidrych, 8-3. Fidrych trailed, 3-0, until Rusty Staub smashed a homer with two aboard to tie the score in the sixth inning.

Then, in the same stanza, the Tigers took the lead with a run on a double by Jason Thompson and single by Aurelio Rodriguez. Ron LeFlore hit a two-run homer in the seventh and Staub accounted for his fourth RBI of the game with a sacrifice fly in the eighth. [The Sporting News]
