. . . where the 1970s live forever!

The Pirates exploded for six runs in the first inning and won the opener of a twi-night doubleheader, 9-5, but the Astros came back to take the nightcap, 4-3, on a sacrifice fly by Ed Herrmann in the ninth inning. The Pirates' outburst in the lidlifter included a triple by Manny Sanguillen with the bases loaded. Sanguillen also picked up a fourth RBI later in the game with a sacrifice fly. John Candelaria posted his 10th victory with relief assistance from Kent Tekulve.

Enos Cabell was the Astros' standout in the nightcap. In the seventh inning, an infield hit by Cabell, two walks and a sacrifice fly by Greg Gross tied the score at 3-3. Then in the ninth, Cabell tripled and counted the winning run on Herrmann's fly. [The Sporting News]
