A triple by Phil Garner with the bases loaded in the ninth inning provided the Athletics' deciding blow in a 7-4 victory over the Indians. With the score tied, 3-3, Bill North opened the ninth by drawing a walk. Don Baylor bunted safely and Joe Rudi sacrificed.

North was thrown out at the plate on a grounder by Billy Williams, but Sal Bando singled to drive in Baylor. After a pass to Gene Tenace loaded the bases, Garner cracked his triple. The Indians came back with one run in their half of the ninth, but it was far from enough. [The Sporting News]
