Pete Redfern, who gave up only four hits but walked six before being lifted in the eighth inning, gained his first win since June 19 as the Twins defeated the Red Sox, 5-1. The Twins jumped on Luis Tiant for three runs in the first. Rod Carew tripled to drive in the first counter and scored himself on a sacrifice fly by Lyman Bostock.
