Three outs away from a no-hitter, Doyle Alexander gave up three singles and a run in the ninth inning before wrapping up the Yankees' 9-1 victory over the Red Sox. Rick Burleson lined Alexander's first pitch in the ninth for a single to spoil the righthander's bid. After a wild pitch, Fred Lynn singled to score Burleson. Carl Yastrzemski also singled before Alexander retired the side. Graig Nettles and Mickey Rivers hit homers for the Yankees. [The Sporting News]
