. . . where the 1970s live forever!

Three unearned runs enabled the Yankees to defeat the Red Sox, 4-1, behind the pitching of Ed Figueroa, who racked up his 13th victory of the season. In the second inning, after Thurman Munson doubled and Chris Chambliss walked, Rico Petrocelli booted a two-out grounder by Willie Randolph, loading the bases.

Fred Stanley then singled, driving in two runs, and Mickey Rivers laid down a safe bunt for the third counter. The Yanks picked up their only untainted tally in the sixth when Munson doubled again and Graig Nettles singled. Jim Rice wrecked Figueroa's shutout bid with a homer in the eighth inning.
