Don Gullett and Jack Billingham combined to pitch the Reds to a 6-3 victory in the second game of a twi-night doubleheader after the Braves had won the first game, 5-4, before a Banner Day crowd of 50,419. In the opener, George Foster batted in the Reds' first two runs with a single and homer before the Braves rallied for three runs in the sixth inning to take a 4-2 lead, but Ken Griffey tied the score by hitting a homer with a man on base in the eighth. However, in the Braves' half, Willie Montanez singled and scored the winning run on a double by Tom Paciorek. In the nightcap, the Reds' 10 hits included three for Dan Driessen, who drove in one run, and a homer by Mike Lum. Montanez had three hits and two RBIs for the Braves. [The Sporting News] |
