. . . where the 1970s live forever!

Reliever Jim Kern, who had not given up a homer in 69 1/3 consecutive innings, had his record ruined when Ben Oglivie hit for the circuit as the leadoff batter in the eighth to give the Tigers a 5-4 victory over the Indians. The Tigers grabbed a 4-0 lead with the aid of a round-tripper by Jason Thompson, but the Indians got to Mark Fidrych for two runs in the fourth and then chased the Tigers' colorful rookie with two more runs in the fifth on a bases-loaded single by George Hendrick. John Hiller was the winner in relief. [The Sporting News]
