The Astros scored in the 13th inning on a sacrifice fly by Bob Watson and won the first game of a twi-night doubleheader, 5-4, but then they collected only three hits off John D'Acquisto and Mike Caldwell in the second game and lost to the Giants, 4-0.

The Astros had to come from behind twice in the opener, first overcoming a 3-0 deficit. The Giants broke a tie in the 10th with a pinch-homer by Gary Thomasson, but the Astros pulled even again in their half on singles by Enos Cabell and Leon Roberts around a sacrifice. In the 13th, Greg Gross doubled, Rob Andrews singled and, after an intentional pass to Cesar Cedeno, Watson hit his game-winning fly. [The Sporting News]
