The Tigers edged the Brewers, 4-3, when Ben Oglivie delivered his fourth single of the game, scoring Rusty Staub with two out in the 13th inning. Staub had singled and advanced to second on a single by Jason Thompson.

The Tigers took a 3-2 lead in the 11th on a homer by Staub, but Hank Aaron homered in the bottom half of the frame for the Brewers. John Hiller gained the decision with 2 2/3 innings of two-hit relief after Jim Crawford replaced Frank MacCormick and worked 10 innings, retiring 22 successive hitters. [The Sporting News]
