Paul Splittorff, who had won eight straight games for the Royals, was stopped on his streak by the Angels, who posted a 2-1 victory behind the four-hit pitching of Frank Tanana. Splittorff gave up the Angels' pair in the fifth inning on a single by Bill Melton, pass to Tony Solaita and double by Andy Etchebarren. That was the last inning in the game for Splittorff, who had to leave the mound because of swelling of his right index finger. [The Sporting News]
