Larvell Blanks, who had previously hit one of the Indians' three homers in the game, as well as a double, singled a run across the plate in the eighth inning to beat the Red Sox, 7-6. The Red Sox knocked out Jackie Brown in the second while taking a 6-2 lead, but the Indians got shutout relief work over the rest of the route from Jim Kern and Dave LaRoche. Winding up the game with a flourish, LaRoche struck out all four batters that he faced.

Buddy Bell and Rico Carty also homered for the Indians, Carty's blow coming after a double by Blanks to tie the score at 6-6 in the seventh. Ray Fosse singled in the eighth and was forced by Rick Manning, who then stole second. After an intentional pass to John Lowenstein, Blanks hit his game-winning single. [The Sporting News]
