Led by the batting of Lyman Bostock, who collected three hits in the first game and two more in the second game, the Twins defeated the Rangers in both ends of a twi-night doubleheader, 8-5 and 8-0. The Twins rapped seven singles while scoring five runs in the fourth inning of the opener and added three runs for their winning margin on RBI singles by Rod Carew, Butch Wynegar and Bostock in the sixth.

Steve Luebber, who pitched first the 6 1/3 innings, and Tom Burgmeier, who finished, combined to post the shutout in the nightcap. The victory was the first in the majors for Luebber since August 18, 1971. Dan Ford hit a homer and single in the Twins' attack and drove in three runs. [The Sporting News]
