The victim of an unearned run, Mark Fidrych, the Tigers' colorful rookie, lost to the Orioles, 1-0, in a duel with Rudy May. The Orioles picked up their run in the fourth inning. With one away Bobby Grich singled, took third on a single by Lee May and then was thrown out at plate on a grounder by Ken Singleton. After Tony Muser walked to load the bases, Mark Belanger tapped to Pedro Garcia and when the second baseman fumbled the ball, May scored. [The Sporting News]
