. . . where the 1970s live forever!

The Red Sox drew 28,799 for the day game and 26,637 for the night game for a total of 55,436 to watch them defeat the Yankees twice, 4-2 and 6-4. In the sunshine contest, Bob Montgomery hit his first homer of the year and also drove in a run with a single to support the pitching of Fergie Jenkins, who gained his 10th victory. The catcher's circuit clout in the fifth inning broke a 2-2 tie.

When the clubs met again under the lights, Jim Rice was the batting standout for the Red Sox, knocking in three runs with a double and two singles. Cecil Cooper added a homer to the Red Sox cause in the victory over Catfish Hunter. Mickey Rivers stole three bases to bring his season's total to 34, most for any Yankee player since Ben Chapman pilfered 38 in 1932. [The Sporting News]
