The Padres swept two games from the Braves, rallying for four runs in the ninth inning to take the opener, 7-3, and winning the nightcap, 7-0, behind the five-hit pitching of Rick Sawyer, making his first National League start. Merv Rettenmund, Enzo Hernandez and Dave Winfield delivered run-scoring singles to spice the late rally in the first game, when unbeaten reliever Butch Metzger posted his ninth victory.
