Nailing Mark Fidrych for two-run homers, Roy White and Oscar Gamble batted the Yankees to a 4-3 victory over the Tigers before a crowd of 44,909. The Tigers picked up two runs in the first inning before White hit his round-tripper to tie the score in the third. The Tigers regained the lead with an RBI single by Willie Horton in the fourth, but Graig Nettles singled for the Yankees in the seventh and Gamble followed with his game-winning homer.
