. . . where the 1970s live forever!

In a one-man show, Don Kessinger batted in all of the Cardinals' runs in a split of a twi-night doubleheader with the Pirates. The Bucs, who ended their string of 26 scoreless innings, won the first game, 2-1, and the Redbirds took the second game, 4-2. Jim Rooker, the Pirates' winner in the opener, hit a sacrifice fly for the initial run in the seventh inning, but the Cards tied the score in the eighth when Jerry Mumphrey singled and Kessinger doubled. With two out in the ninth, Duffy Dyer smashed a homer to win the game for the Pirates.

Kessinger accounted for the Cards' scoring in the nightcap with a two-run double in the eighth inning and two-run single in the ninth. [The Sporting News]
