. . . where the 1970s live forever!

Mike Schmidt smacked his 28th and 29th homers of the season, connecting for the second time with a man on base in the seventh inning to break a 5-5 tie and give the Phillies a 7-5 victory over the Cubs. The Cubs took a 4-0 lead before Schmidt sparked the score-tying rally by the Phils with his first homer of the game in the fourth.

Larry Bowa drove in two runs with a double and Ron Schueler laid down a sacrifice bunt for the fourth tally. The Cubs regained the lead at 5-4 in the fifth, but Tim McCarver hit his first homer of the season in the sixth to knot the count again. Schmidt's game-winning homer in the seventh followed a single by Garry Maddox. [The Sporting News]
