Dave Freisleben ended his personal eight-game losing streak when the Padres defeated the Astros, 4-3. The Padres started their scoring with a homer by Doug Rader in the fourth inning and added their other runs in the sixth on a sacrifice fly by Rader, single by Tito Fuentes and squeeze bunt by Freisleben. Butch Metzger relieved Freisleben with two men on base and one out in the ninth and gave up hits by Leon Roberts and Enos Cabell for Astros' runs before retiring the side. [The Sporting News]
