The Tigers ended their five-game losing streak by defeating the Indians, 3-1, behind the pitching of Dave Roberts. Rusty Staub started the Tigers' scoring with a homer in the fourth inning. Singles by Tom Veryzer and Ron LeFlore around a stolen base added a tally in the seventh and the Tigers' third run followed in the eighth on a walk to Jason Thompson and double by Aurelio Rodriguez.
