. . . where the 1970s live forever!

Only one out away from a no-hitter, Steve Luebber had his bid spoiled and then needed last-out help from Bill Campbell to wrap up the Twins' 3-1 victory over the Rangers. Roy Howell wrecked the 27-year-old righthander's hitless performance with a single and reached third when Lyman Bostock allowed the ball to get past him in center field.

Mike Hargrove followed with a single to drive in the Rangers' run before Campbell took over and struck out Jeff Burroughs to end the game. Singles by Steve Braun and Rod Carew, plus an infield out by Butch Wynegar, accounted for the Twins' initial tally in the first. Larry Hisle provided the winning blow with a homer after a single by Mike Cubbage in the fifth. [The Sporting News]
