The White Sox, who split a doubleheader with the Royals, winning the first game, 5-2, and losing the second game, 7-1, set a precedent by becoming the first major league club to wear shorts instead of regular pants. Terry Forster pitched six scoreless innings for the White Sox in the lidlifter and gained the victory to end his personal eight-game losing streak. Jack Brohamer drove in two runs with a bases-loaded single in the sixth inning and the White Sox added two more tallies in the seventh on singles by Ralph Garr and Jim Spencer.
