Phil Niekro drove in his own winning run with a double in the seventh inning but then needed relief help in the ninth before the Braves defeated the Phillies, 2-1. Singles by Willie Montanez, Cito Gaston and Dave May produced the Braves' first run in the fifth. Vic Correll tripled with two out in the seventh and scored on Niekro's double.

The Phillies began the ninth with a safe bunt by Mike Schmidt and pass to Greg Luzinski. Mike Marshall, in relief, picked Schmidt off second, but gave up a single by Jay Johnstone. Adrian Devine took over and retired the side after Larry Bowa singled to drive in the Phillies' run. [The Sporting News]
