. . . where the 1970s live forever!

Getting a lift from batterymate Steve Swisher, who hit a three-run homer in the second inning, Ray Burris gained credit for his fifth straight victory when the Cubs defeated the Reds, 6-3. Swisher's blow followed singles by Pete LaCock and Manny Trillo. The Cubs added a run in the fifth on a single by Rick Monday and double by Jose Cardenal before the Reds got all their counters on a single by Ken Griffey and homers by Joe Morgan and Dan Driessen in the sixth.

The Cubs came back to clinch the decision with two runs in their half of the sixth on a single by LaCock and doubles by Rob Sperring and Mick Kelleher. Bruce Sutter pitched the last 1 2/3 innings in relief of Burris and picked up his sixth save. [The Sporting News]
