The Cardinals jumped on Bo McLaughlin for four runs in the first inning and beat the Astros, 8-1, behind the pitching of Lynn McGlothen, who turned in his first complete-game victory since July 2. Lou Brock doubled, Ted Simmons walked, Keith Hernandez tripled and Joe Ferguson, Don Kessinger and Hector Cruz singled in the Cards' first-inning outburst.
