Thurman Munson broke the Yankees' four-game losing streak by smashing a homer with two out in the 11th inning to beat the Royals, 2-1. The homer was only the second given up by Steve Mingori, Royals' reliever, this season. The Yankees counted their initial run in the fourth on singles by Lou Piniella and Chris Chambliss, together with a sacrifice fly by Graig Nettles.
