The Expos erupted for six runs in the sixth inning and defeated the Giants, 9-3, behind the pitching of Woodie Fryman, who turned in his first complete game in 23 starts this season. Gary Carter homered in the third inning and Wayne Garrett drove in a run with a single before the Expos broke the game apart in the sixth.

A single by Garrett, an error on a bunt by Ellis Valentine and single by Larry Parrish started the scoring in the stanza. Tim Foli followed with a two-run double and scored on a single by Del Unser.
