A loser of nine straight decisions -- three in 1975 and six this year -- Frank LaCorte gained credit for his first major league victory when the Braves defeated the Phillies, 4-3. The Braves picked up a run in the first inning and made it 4-0 in the third when Jerry Royster walked, Cito Gaston doubled and Willie Montanez homered.

LaCorte gave up a run in the fifth and was lifted in the sixth. Mike Beard walked Ollie Brown with the bases loaded before getting the third out. Adrian Devine took over in the seventh and yielded the Phillies' last run on three singles in the ninth. [The Sporting News]
