Catfish Hunter ended a personal four-game losing streak and breezed to his first victory since July 21 when the Yankees trounced the Twins, 12-5. The Yankees piled up 16 hits, including three apiece for Mickey Rivers, Carlos May and Willie Randolph. Chris Chambliss drove in three runs with a double in the fourth inning. The Yankees built up a 12-1 lead before Steve Braun whacked a bases-loaded triple for the Twins in the seventh. [The Sporting News]
