After giving up a double by Dave Cash and safe bunt by Larry Bowa in the first inning, John Montefusco struck out the side and proceeded to pitch the Giants to a 3-0 victory over the Phillies. The shutout was the fourth of the season for The Count, who also racked up his fourth straight victory.

The Giants tagged Jim Kaat for a run in the first on a single by Marty Perez and double by Gary Matthews. Darrell Evans homered in the fifth and the final marker counted in the sixth on a pass to Matthews and double by Ken Reitz. [The Sporting News]
