The Cardinals erupted for six runs in the fifth inning to make victory easy for Pete Falcone, who shut out the Braves, 8-0. Jerry Mumphrey, Garry Templeton, Lou Brock and Ted Simmons singled and Willie Crawford hit a sacrifice fly for the Cards' first three runs.

After Keith Hernandez doubled, Simmons stopping at third, the Braves walked Don Kessinger intentionally to load the bases and Hector Cruz promptly cleared the sacks with a double. Cruz added his fourth RBI with a sacrifice fly in the seventh. [The Sporting News]
