Breaking out of his slump, John Mayberry batted in five runs to lead the Royals' 18-hit attack in a 15-3 victory over the Tigers. Mayberry, who had only one hit in 19 previous times at bat, smashed a homer with two men on base in the first inning when the Royals started their romp by scoring seven runs.

Mayberry also hit a single and double in six trips with his double producing two runs in the eighth. George Brett was right behind Mayberry with four RBIs on a bases-loaded double in the third and sacrifice fly in the sixth. [The Sporting News]
