After trailing by six runs, the Athletics rallied to defeat the Red Sox, 8-7, for their ninth straight victory. Dwight Evans and Fred Lynn homered for the Red Sox, Evans' blow coming with two men on base. The A's, who had a circuit clout by Sal Bando, counted twice in the fifth and added two more runs in the sixth before the Red Sox made it 7-4 in the seventh. After another two-run burst in the eighth, the A's put over the tying and winning tallies with two out in the ninth when Bill North doubled, Bert Campaneris singled and Don Baylor doubled.
