After two bunts helped load the bases, the Padres erupted for five runs in the sixth inning to defeat the Expos, 6-1. Fred Kendall walked to open the stanza and when Tom Griffin bunted, Don Carrithers threw late to second and both runners were safe.

Johnny Grubb also bunted and reached base on an error by Larry Parrish. Willie Davis singled, driving in two runs. Dave Winfield singled to add the third tally. After an intentional pass to Mike Ivie reloaded the sacks, Ted Kubiak singled to drive in two runs. [The Sporting News]
