Rob Sperring singled with the bases full in the ninth inning, scoring two runs and enabling the Cubs to down the Astros, 5-3. Singles by Pete LaCock and Manny Trillo, a throwing error by Rob Andrews and intentional walk to Steve Swisher made a loser of Larry Dierker, who allowed one hit in the first five innings.
