Bruce Kimm, Mark Fidrych's favorite receiver, hit his first major league homer to enable the Tigers' sensational rookie to defeat the Angels, 3-2. Fidrych gave up five hits, including a homer by Ron Jackson in the fifth inning. The Angels picked up their other run on a single by Dave Collins, a sacrifice, wild pitch and sacrifice fly by Bruce Bochte in the sixth.

The Tigers were limited to four hits by Frank Tanana but came back with the tying pair in their half of the sixth on a walk to Kimm, triple by Ron LeFlore and sacrifice fly by Alex Johnson. Kimm then hit his homer in the eighth for the Tigers' winning run. [The Sporting News]
