The Giants rallied for two runs in the eighth inning on a pinch-double by Steve Ontiveros, a throwing error and homer by Gary Thomasson to overtake the Pirates, 7-6. Richie Zisk homered to account for two of the Pirates' three runs in the first. The Giants went on to take a 5-4 lead before the Pirates moved ahead with two runs in the top half of the eighth on a pair of singles, a double play and homer by Richie Hebner.

In the Giants' half, Ontiveros rapped his double, batting for Gary Lavelle, and scored when Frank Taveras threw wildly on the relay from the outfield. Thomasson followed with his winning homer. [The Sporting News]
