The Orioles were stopped on their five-game winning streak with a 5-1 loss to the Twins. Dave Goltz held the Orioles to three hits before giving up a run on three singles in the eighth inning. Bill Campbell relieved and struck out Lee May to end the Orioles' threat.

The Twins beat Jim Palmer, starting their scoring in the fourth when Rod Carew knocked in a run with a single and later crossed the plate himself on a wild throw by Mark Belanger. Mike Cubbage batted in a run with a double in the seventh and scored on a single by Bob Randall. Tippy Martinez yielded the Twins' final tally in the eighth after replacing Palmer.
