Homers by Jim Spencer and Bucky Dent carried the White Sox to a 4-2 victory over the Red Sox. A triple by Rick Burleson and sacrifice fly by Denny Doyle produced a run for the Red Sox in the first inning and their other tally followed in the second when Butch Hobson bounced into a double play with the bases loaded.

Spencer got one run back with his homer in the White Sox' half of the second. Dent then decided the outcome, hitting for the circuit in the fifth to score behind Jerry Hairston, who had reached base with a single. [The Sporting News]
