John Candelaria scattered nine hits for his third shutout of the season and scored the game's only run while pitching the Pirates to a 1-0 victory over the Giants. Duffy Dyer walked in the fifth inning and was forced on an attempted sacrifice by Candelaria, who then came home on two-out singles by Omar Moreno and Richie Zisk. Candelaria twice pitched his way out of bases-loaded jams, retiring Darrell Evans on a roller to shortstop in the first inning and Chris Speier on a popup to short in the sixth.
