Gaylord Perry pitched a seven-hitter and gained his 12th victory when the Rangers defeated the Indians, 5-3. A defensive lapse enabled the Indians to score two runs on an infield out in the first inning. After Rick Manning singled, John Lowenstein walked and Rico Carty singled to load the bases, Larvell Blanks grounded to second baseman Danny Thompson, who failed in his attempt to tag Carty. Thompson then was forced to throw to first to retire Blanks while both Manning and Lowenstein scored on the play.

The Rangers came back with two runs in their half and broke the tie with a run in the fifth before putting over the winning margin in the sixth when Jim Fregosi singled, Tom Grieve tripled and Juan Beniquez doubled. Boog Powell homered for the Indians in the seventh. [The Sporting News]
