Although forced to call on three pitchers, the Royals defeated the Brewers, 6-2, with a 14-hit attack that included three each by Ruppert Jones and Amos Otis and two apiece by George Brett and Hal McRae. The Royals jumped off to a two-run lead in the first inning on singles by Jones, Otis and Brett and an infield out by John Mayberry.

After the Brewers came back with a tally on a triple by Mike Hegan and grounder by Sixto Lezcano, the Royals put the game away with three runs in the fourth. Singles by Frank White and Otis and an infield out by Brett produced the first counter. Mayberry walked. Otis stole third and scored on a single by McRae. Pinch-hitter Al Cowens followed with a single to drive in Mayberry.
