Blowing up in the 10th inning, Mark Fidrych loaded the bases, hit Dan Ford with a pitch and then gave up three more runs to go down to defeat as the Twins triumphed over the Tigers, 7-3. The Tigers counted their runs in the first, two scoring on a double by Rusty Staub, but the Twins came back with a two-run homer by Steve Brye in the second before tying the score in the seventh on singles by Lyman Bostock and Brye around a sacrifice and a grounder by Larry Hisle.

In the 10th, with one out, Bob Randall and Steve Braun singled for the Twins. Roy Smalley also singled, but Randall was thrown out at the plate by Ron LeFlore. Fidrych then walked Rod Carew intentionally to load the bases before hitting Ford with a pitch to force in the tie-breaking tally. Upset, the Tigers' rookie righthander gave up a two-run single by Butch Wynegar and run-scoring double by Bostock before the inning ended. [The Sporting News]
