Don Sutton pitched a perfect game for 7 1/3 innings before giving up a homer by Dave Parker, but the Dodgers' righthander had no trouble beating the Pirates, 5-1, for his 15th victory. Manny Sanguillen later doubled for the Pirates' second and final hit.

The Dodgers opened the scoring in the third with two runs on a walk to Ellie Rodriguez, triple by Davey Lopes and single by Bill Buckner. Three singles added a run in the fourth before Steve Garvey hit a homer with Buckner on base in the fifth. [The Sporting News]
