With a crowd of 40,018 on hand, the Reds went over 2,000,000 in attendance for the fourth straight year and marked the occasion by defeating the Cubs, 4-3. The Reds, who were held to only four hits, tied the score at 3-3 in the third inning when Joe Morgan homered with a man on base. With two out in the seventh, Mike Lum batted for Manny Sarmiento and reached base on an error by Pete LaCock. Pinch-runner Ed Armbrister stole second and scored the winning run on a single by Rose.
